Your EZOfficeInventory experience just got better, faster and more secure

Infrastructure Update

We recently did an infrastructure upgrade to bring you an even better EZOfficeInventory experience.

We’ve moved to upgraded set of servers that are significantly faster, where computational power has more than doubled. You will notice that all actions, including reports and excel imports, have become even faster.

We’re now on Rails 4.2 and Ruby 2.2 (latest versions). This means you’ll be able to receive next generation features and experience better performance.

At EZOfficeInventory, we go an extra mile to ensure that your data is secure. We’ve introduced a number of fresh security improvements. The application is now completely on HTTPS*, which means all data transfer is encrypted. The password policy has been upgraded as well and now requires new passwords to have both numbers and alphabets.

*Switch to HTTPS is seamless. However if you experience some connectivity hiccups, contact your network admin to ensure that the proxy/gateway settings do not impede HTTPS traffic.

 

Mobile app acting up on iPhone & iPad?

A new version of our iOS app (v 3.9) is now available on App Store. It fixes the crash on label scanning.

We pushed an updated iOS app to the App Store, this morning. As per the process set by Apple, it’ll be available for download after the approval (normally takes 2 – 3 days).
Will send out the word as soon as the new app is live on App Store.

Something spooky has happened over this Halloween. Some users on iOS 8 are reporting intermittent app freezes and hangs when scanning labels. Our engineering team is working hard on a fix. However due to the unpredictable nature of problem, we will welcome any information you may have about the reported issue.

Change Your Passwords

A security loophole called heartbleed that impacted a significant number of services on the internet was recently discovered by security experts. Our servers were impacted as well, but they have since been patched up and are no longer vulnerable. You are requested (strongly recommended) to change your password as a precaution. Read on for more details.

WHAT HAPPENED? A major vulnerability in OpenSSL (an implementation of SSL and TLS security protocol) was found and a security advisory was issued by the OpenSSL project on April 7, 2014.

WHAT’S HEARTBLEED? A weakness which hackers can exploit to eavesdrop on data, which is encrypted for secure transactions. Here is an 8 minute video to understand this bug: http://vimeo.com/91425662

WHO WAS AFFECTED? Everyone on the internet, directly or indirectly. To check if a website that you use is vulnerable, simply enter the URL here: http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/

WHAT DID EZOfficeInventory DO ABOUT IT? We upgraded to OpenSSL 1.0.1g which is not vulnerable, and moved to an entirely new set of servers. We have also put in additional safeguards for enhanced security.

WHAT YOU – AS A USER – SHOULD DO? Change your password now. Same goes for any other websites you log in to including Gmail, Facebook and Amazon.

EZOfficeInventory Infrastructure upgrade: Follow up

At midnight today (Oct 31st) we rolled out a major infrastructure upgrade, aimed at greatly enhancing EZOfficeInventory’s availability, performance and robustness.

How does it effect me?
The upgrade should be seamless for users on desktop browsers. However, EZOfficeInventory mobile apps users will need to refresh their apps so that they can sync up with the upgraded server components. The following actions need to be taken on different mobile platforms.

iPhone/iPad:
Reboot the EZOffice app. Refer to the following link for details http://iosguides.net/force-quit-reboot-app-iphone-ipad/

Android:
Since there is a wide variety of Android devices in the market, some users may run into errors while using the app and will need to clear the data cache. A simpler (and recommended) workaround is to simply uninstall and re-install the app from the Google play store. Note: Uninstalling the app will NOT result in data loss as the data resides in our cloud based servers
